The following pages will document Shalay's study of Science and Mathematics at this "Free Tutoring" facility. We will occasionally switch to related vocational subjects.Shalay has been interacting with Mr. McAlpin as of late, and he has been, and will be picking her up from school on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school: will be bringing her over to tutoring from 3:30PM until 8:00PM. During Christmas vacation, Shalay will be coming over every day. She will be focusing primarily on Science and Mathematics. Mr. McAlpin has been responsible for reversing the grades of countless students all around the Los Angeles basin for well over 7 years, as this website clearly indicates. He will now focus on his grand daughter, Shalay, who asked his assistance in her studies. She will join 5-7 other students who are enrolled in "A Free Tutoring Service" at this time. See Lesson Review E-32 forward : Alex has already moved from an "F" to a "B", after two weeks of intense Algebra Two work.
Begin: Our Plan will be to follow Shalay's course outlines and assist with her homework. We will go further by doing extra reports in Science and Mathematics.
Shalay brought her "Focus on Physical Science" book over. I reviewed the first 67 pages to make sure we were in the same ball park in our studies. Problems do occur when we get too far ahead, or lag too far behind the students! Teachers, (click) please let me in on your course outlines. We are only here to assist you.
The first such report will be on......Newton's Laws of Motion
We are movers of the Earth!.........By Shalay Lockett
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction! For an example, when an ant moves forward, the earth is being moved by the ant in the opposite direction! And the same is with me! With everything moving in one direction, the earth is moving in the opposite direction... according to Newton's Laws of Motion.
I will now state Newton's Laws of Motion. I will visit the NASA Website to study them. Come along with me to: http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/dict_ei.html#em_spectrum Scientific Dictionary
and to: www.glenbrook.k12.il.us/gbssci/phys/mmedia/index.html Physics : General Math and Science : Gif Animations of Mathematics and Science...a must see!
I will use Lesson Review 3A (click) to do some of my homework, or I will simply click on. , my "Valuable Links" icon, throughout this website. Go to the NASA website and click on the "N"; scan down to Sir Isaac Newton, as I have just done!
Newton's laws of motion (Sir I. Newton
says...
"Enjoy my work, below! O.K? It's
really tight!")
Units Conversions
Newton's first law of motion
"A body continues in its state of constant velocity (which may be zero) unless
it is acted upon by an external force". Be sure to
wear that seat belt. If you are in a car and it is traveling 50 miles per hour,
you are also traveling 50 miles per hour: indeed, if the car stops suddenly, you
will continue on your merry way, if you don't have a seat belt on! You will
undoubtedly be.....thrown through the windshield or out of the vehicle. Sorry,
you will not be able to stop like the car; you are not equipped with brakes!
Thank you, Sir Isaac Newton, for reminding us of this... with your
first law of motion!
Newton's second law of motion
"For an unbalanced force acting on a body, the acceleration produced is
proportional to the force impressed; the constant of proportionality is the
inertial mass of the body."
That old F= MA formula again! It has been around for many, many years! We will work many, many problems using this formula. Take F = µN , for example. How does our friend, " µ", the coefficient of friction, enter into all of this? Well, we do know that without "µ", we would not be able to walk anywhere! Or drive anywhere! We would be simply "spinning our wheels". We will dissect the Formula, F = MA, in complete detail over the coming weeks. (Physics and more Physics) Motion everywhere! Work, Work, Work )
Newton's third law of motion
"In a system where no external forces are present, every action force is
always opposed by an equal and opposite reaction."
As you can see, I chose Newton's Third Law for its
shock value. Of course, the earth moves backwards
as we move forward; otherwise we wouldn't move anywhere. Never mind the very,
very tiny amount; it still moves. Take that rocket ship that is about to reach a
velocity of 7.2 miles a second after leaving good old mother earth. The blast
coming from the rear is the action that sends the rocket upwards towards the
heavens (
www.satcodx.com ...
Satellites
in their orbits). That upwards motion is the reaction to the blast from the rocket's
rear. Jet fighters are no different; airliners are no different: they all move
forward when the exhaust shoots out of the rear. And I, as well as the ant, must
follow this third law of motion! If anything is to move forward, something
must move backwards. Education will always move us
forward, if we
put something into the tank!
Up, up, and away...
to reach an escape velocity from planet Earth of 7.2 miles/second! Because...for
every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction.
I will now go to the Glenbrook Physics class to see what they have to say about the Laws of Motion. Go Glenbrook: www.glenbrook.k12.il.us/gbssci/phys/mmedia/index.html Physics : General Math and Science : Gif Animations of Mathematics and Science
There are GIF animations that are really keen! Check out some of them that deal with the Laws of Motion. Go to the website and click on one of the topics below.

With this little episode I must move to the Next Page: I believe I have a working knowledge of Newton's Laws of Motion. I think I'd better have one; my grand father is going to give me an examination on tomorrow!
Of course, I had a little help with this web page. My grand dad taught me how to enter this site, edit it, establish hyperlinks, insert photos, scan documents (my report card has been scanned and hidden on this site and will only re-appear when my grades improve), establish hover buttons, page themes, change fonts, and do many, many other tasks related to website design. I am now ready to strike out on my own. Go to Next Pages for my input into this site, without assistance from anyone! I will alternate pages between math and science.....Shalay Lockett of Dodson Middle School: Rancho Palos Verdes, California...and I am tired! We have been at it for more than 3 hours! But alas, it's on to "momentum"
on the following pages. Of course, we will double back to take on problems related to Newton's Laws Of Motion.
