Please wait. We're Under Construction! "Hurry up and finish constructing, you rascal! I'm tired of rocking in this here chair"!

"Need me to straighten things out around here?! Let's learn those trig functions first! O.k.? Units Conversions  Internet Physics

A Review is in order: For my parents...Joanne and Duane McAlpin...December 23, 2005

No time for Christmas shopping. I must demonstrate what I've learned over the last week in "A Free Tutoring Service". My parents came by to pick me up, and I just know my grand dad is going to ask me all about my studies over his house. He is going to test me! Woe is me!

"What is the Clark Orbit?  Shalay".

"It's the orbit satellites are placed in where the gravitational pull of the earth matches the centrifugal force of a body in circular motion around the earth. That same old centrifugal force that tries to hurl you out of your car when you round a curve; and that same old gravitational force that causes you to be glued to the earth like a rubber band: You jump up, you come straight back down.  That distance from earth to orbit is approximately 36, 000 kilometers or 36,000,000 meters x  1 foot/.303 meters x 1 mile / 5280 feet = 22,500 miles (named Clark Orbit, after science fiction writer, Arthur C. Clark) above the surface of the earth. Our DirectTV dish stays locked into the satellite's transmissions like spokes on my bicycle locks the tires to the hub. There is no need to rotate a satellite dish to track the earth's rotation, as in older times! Click on Valuable Links icon and go to Satellites. There are many, many of them circling the earth in the Clark Orbit. You can find out where each and every one of them is right now, as they circle the earth! except the highly secret ones of the United States government, that is! Oh I forgot to mention, bodies in circular motion are accelerating all the while!

"What else did you learn?"

"All about momentum, acceleration, speed or velocity, Newton's Laws of Motion, all about the Universe: the sun, planets, (and origin of same), units conversion, falling bodies, projectiles, and a whole host of other things that slip my mind at present. Ask me on an examination, though, and you will see that I have grasped much of my Physics Book, the first 3 chapters of it.

"And now, I must get on to basic trigonometry in preparation for "bodies sliding down inclined planes".

"Shalay's work is cut out for her. We must learn all about the sine, cosine and tangent of right triangles."

"That goes along with my Algebra One lessons. I plan to make an "A in that class, also!"
