As of late, there has been a renewed sense of tutoring. We have relocated to our previous location at 19009 Laurel Park Road in Dominguez Hills, CA. There have been numerous calls requesting free tutoring...and now we shall be responsive to each and every one of them! Thank you, Sam and Jean Craig for your continuing donation. Your financial support continually motivates me to keep on going, no matter what it takes.....to elevate the grade point average of middle and high school underprivileged students!
Christine (17) came over by Blue-Line transportation to do work on the computer. She received a lecture on the need to improve her grade point average at all cost. She is anticipating graduation from High School in June.
Shalay (16) is doing extremely well with her better than 3.7 grade point average. She is presently campaigning for student body president.
Ebony (14) is doing well as usual, and comes over occasionally to do work on the computer.
Upon occasion, I have ventured to Downey to assist Ti'man (12) with his Algebra. He is doing very well.
Cassandra (21) came over to visit and now has a child. She is looking forward to another job when the Stimulus Package kicks in.
Jarrell (22) is still a 3.8 Grade Point Average student at ITT Tech. College in Torrance. He has become an expert at Computer Security Systems.
A NEW STUDENT EMERGES!! She is now 5-years of age! Yesterday, the 5-year old Janiece (Ne-Ne) presented to Doctor Cheryl Brown of Kaiser Hospital, a small box of marsh-mellow birds. It was a token gift to thank her for the invitation to her lovely home in Carson. Ne-Ne is extremely sharp, having been a student in the tutoring service for well over 3 years now. She has been to many of the field trips, and has engaged many, many students with regards to tutoring. Her memory amazes me, her grand father, and her thirst for knowledge is second to none for her tender age. She is now undergoing reading exercises with the aid of the computer. She already knows quite a lot of computer manipulations and takes pride in having her very own lap-top (kind of old, I might add).
Ne-Ne looked at the Doctor's beautiful home and told me she wanted to have one when she grows up. I told her that hard work in school is a must if she wants to become a Doctor like Doctor Cheryl. I doubt that she will ever forget her meeting with the very, very nice Doctor Brown of Kaiser Hospital.
Tutoring never stops, even when I, Cleophas Mike McAlpin, seeks to take a break. Breaks are far and few between.
Ne-Ne will be traveling to Atlanta, Georgia with me during the Summer. She has been shown the World Globe and knows a lot about the United States of America, as well as Africa, Asia and Europe. She peers at the Planet, Venus, in the afternoon sky, and now knows something of it. She is taught about the structure of the Solar System: the concept of time, night and day, and the seasons. Whenever she is with me, there is so much to teach her, so much for her to absorb.....and she does it readily....and then begs for more.

Christine and Ebony received a lot of tutoring on the Monday.
Christine and I engaged in United States history. Her lesson dealt with the Second World War; in particular, her "essential question" was... "Was it morally wrong for the United States to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki"?
I gave Christine a lengthy lecture on the Second World War and she utilized her notes to write a superb report for Ms. Cho of her Charter School in Southwest Los Angeles. Christine is now very knowledgeable about all of the events during this time in American history.
I also assisted her with "Molarity" problems in chemistry.
I gave Ebony a long lecture on speed and acceleration for her science class. I tossed in "force" as a side thing. I discussed the Laws of Motion by Newton and ended with the acceleration of gravity "G" of 32.2 feet/ sec²
Ebony knows the speed of light to be 186,000 miles/second and the distance from the Earth to the Sun to be 93,000,000 miles....and she knows how to find the time it takes for light from the sun to reach the earth...........8.33 minutes.
I took Christine and Ebony to their home in Southwest Los Angeles......15 miles. I was tired, but very happy that my students will do well when tested on this material. I was also happy to know that our experience in tutoring would be repeated on Thursday when the two will return to me.......for more of the same!

Christine arrived via Metro-Blue Line at 6:00 PM. I picked her up from the station and began my usual questions on school activities and homework assignments.
We went to the computer to do a chemistry assignment....without her chemistry book! I reprimanded (lightly) her for not bring over her book, as I don't have a chemistry book now (the last was taken by someone). We struggled through solution problems and used the Internet to assist us.
I advised Christine of her newly formed Saturday class in Chemistry.....where she is the starring and only student now! I will pick her up and take her home if necessary, as her mother has no automobile.
I took Christine to her home in Southwest Los Angeles, after treating her to Subway sandwich and drink. I do believe in Christine and will do all I can to assist her and bring her "up-to-snuff".
Back home at 10:00PM and sorry I had to miss the Lakers game. Happy to know they defeated the San Antonio Spurs.....but a slim margin!

I am Christine and I am studying the solar system using the Internet and CD disk on the Planets. I have just received the highest score on my English test in the whole 11th grade. I am very proud of myself. My teacher's name is Mr. Presha and he says I am one of his favorite students. I am glad that my grand father is taking the time out to help me to do better in school. I love him so much.
Today, I have learned a lot about the Solar System.
