July 10, 2006....Students at work! Volunteer Student Tutor, Kahmya (C.A.M.S. 15, left) and Lamar, 15...hard at work on Examination (click on photos): Right, Shalay (14) does homework on Computer Station # 2
Hello! I am Kahmya and I am a Volunteer Tutor ("A" student). Today I am helping Lamar with the examination at Lesson Review 7 Click on our photo for Lamar's introduction to our Service! More new students! We are preparing the students to take the" Ultimate Exam "at Lesson 16 Another Exam looms
He is doing very well. Lamar is an "all F" student but will soon be an "all A" student. This morning, Mr. McAlpin gave him a lecture on "motivation" and the need to become self-motivated! The lecture took place after Mr. McAlpin had picked me up from Carson High School, where I am taking a College course. Then it was on the Lamar's home in South Central to have him change clothes and wait for us to pick him up on our way from downtown Los Angeles. We had to purchase a diamond ring for a customer and got the job done o.k. Then, we came back to pick up Lamar and bring him to tutoring.
I worked with Lamar for well over 2 hours on the examination. Mr. Mike went to the train station to pick up Qynnchele' and returned to lecture Lamar and Qynnchele' on the examination. The first part dealt with fractions, and Mr. Mike took the two students into "deep educational waters" by working many problems and having them work with him. He gave the two students a folder, and they surveyed it to find pencils, paper, graphing paper, a notebook and pens. This notebook will contain information related to working examination problems. It will also contain a graphing scientific calculator.
We all took a 15-minute break, and had a hamburger meal fixed by Jarrell (19), another student "A" Tutor. We then toured the neighborhood, particularly the store and returned to continue our blitz of fractions, decimals, percents and exponents.
Jarrell took Qynnchele' to the train station: I relaxed on the couch, while Mr. Mike lectured Lamar again!
I was told that the students went to the Cerritos Mall yesterday to see a movie and to walk around. There was Courtney, Asia, Shalay, Deryon, Micah, Ne-Ne and Lamar. All saw a movie (Superman) and had a great time!
Tomorrow, new students will join us. They are Katlin (15), Delky, (15), Ijau (12)....Donald will be returning, as well as Jordan, as well as Aaron, as well as Chelsea, as well as Vivian, Omatseyin and Daniel! To be added to Shalay and Lamar and Qynnchele'.
As the students grow, so shall our hours of operation. We will meet Monday through Thursday, and on Saturdays and Sundays as needed.
Each and every one will receive one-on-one tutoring. Each is expected to make "A" grades, and each of the students of A Free Tutoring Service......most certainly will!
Two parents of the new students came by for an interview. Mr. Mike told them of our wonderful Free Tutoring Service. Mr. Mike volunteered to pick up the new students from a Carson park and bring them to tutoring. They will be at the tutoring location for well over 3 hours....and that is all we ask for....enough time to teach all that we know!
California Wild Fires Rage.....below!
It seems...the more I think about taking a break....the more I know of things I have to do!
