Activity: Wednesday afternoon---Activity-Tutoring: Thursday afternoon...Mr. Mike says, "I bet you're glad...you are not me! Yet"  See Thursday activity,  Below

Wednesday: I picked up Aaron from Gardena High at 3:00 PM; Kahmya from C.A.M.S. at Cal State Dominguez Hills. We immediately went to the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center at 9106 S. Western to tutor the underprivileged students there.

Kahmya and I decided to grill Aaron on Algebra and Geometry! That is in keeping with my commitment to waste very little time in driving around Los Angeles without saying anything about education! Of course, Aaron disapproved of the whole idea.

Kahmya and I took Aaron into basic geometrical figures such as circles, rectangles and triangles and trig functions. He was required to answer each and every one of our questions about circumference, area, diameter, radius, pi, height of a triangle, sine, cosine, tangent, and a host of other basic math questions. He was given no pencil or eraser as we drove and he complained about those missing ingredients. His pleading was to no avail, since Kahmya is a relentless purser of education....and a super "A" student to boot!

We arrived at the Al Wooten Center and Kahmya got to work assisting a youngster with his homework. I got to work on Aaron's Algebra One and Two. I had him take out the Texas Instrument T-I 84 Plus Calculator and had him to figure problems relating to missing sides, or angles in a right triangle. That old "opposite side, adjacent side, hypotenuse, sine of this angle, and cosine of that angle" permeated the surroundings with Aaron struggling to work the problems that I had placed before him!

I can truly say that Aaron will "cream the high school exit examination" that he failed before joining our group. As if it were not enough to tutor him in the van, as we made our way to R & J Restaurant for a meal on me, Kahmya and I decided to deny him dinner if he did not pass our oral examination, prior to picking up a fork to eat the fried shrimp, filet of sole, corn bread, lemonade, dessert, and all of the other entrees in this very fine eating establishment, owned by Julie, one of our financial supporters!

Aaron responded well to our blitz of mathematics. He answered each question in less than 12 seconds! He was like a man possessed with an IQ of well over 500+ as he shouted out the answers to circumferences of circles, areas of circles, sine of a 30 degree right triangle, ratio relationships in a 45 degree right triangle, and any other question Kahmya and I could throw at him. All I could conclude was that "the boy must have been awfully hungry!"

We had a great time, with Julie and Vanessa, our resident maker of T-Shirts and mega-buck fund-raisers. I have decided to accompany Vanessa on her rise to the top.....seeing how she is destined and determined to become a millionaire! Vanessa is proud Black woman who is full of energy and determination to raise mega-bucks for schools and Organizations across the Los Angeles basis. Hey, I am no fool when it comes to latching onto winners. Vanessa has recently become a born-again Christian, and that, more than any other reason, gives me the insight to know...that she will now rise to the top!

Please call Vanessa at (310) 631-2507 if your Organization is in serious need of funds. "The Girl" really knows her stuff! She is in the business of hiring the less fortunate to work for her when contracts arrive and orders need filling. Now, that's my kind of a person......A Christian, an honest person, a dedicated person, a driving person, a knowledgeable person, a person you can trust, a person who will help you to raise mega-bucks.....all you have to do is to call!

Activity: Thursday, March 16, From 9:00AM until 9:00PM...12 hours of work! Jarrell, front and center!

Jarrell and I made Site Visitations of our own. Below is the Itinerary we followed.

9:00 Prepare paperwork to give to Volunteer Professionals

10:00 Leave Dominguez Hills and travel to 120th and Wilmington to King Drew Magnet School. Talk to Ms. Woodlief, Math Teacher. Jarrell is impressed with this Magnet School of the highest caliber

11:00 Arrive at the 8930 Sepulveda, Suite 207, office of DDS Gardner Beale. His door is locked; perhaps, he is in surgery. We eat lunch at the IHOP on corner of Manchester and Sepulveda. We discuss our plans for the afternoon and the future of the tutoring service.

12:00 Back to Doctor Beale's office and he is still busy. We leave paperwork and a T-Shirt with the Free Tutoring pictures on the front and back. A picture of him teaching the students stands out.

1:00 PM We arrive at The Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center to speak to Mrs. Rumph, the Director of this Nonprofit Corporation. She has not arrived. We leave paperwork and a T-shirt to Marzette, Tutorial Director.

1:15 PM We arrive at the 95th Street Preparatory School to meet with Assistant Principal Charles Carr. Jarrell is impressed with this very fine gentleman, and we have a great and lively conversation concerning the tutoring program. I inform Charles of the Al Wooten Heritage Center and he thanks me for that. He will be sending some of his students to this worthwhile after school Organization. Charles informs me of Dr. Keisha, his daughter, and says she would like to volunteer to assist us. She is a Professor of Psychology at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

1:45 PM  We arrive at Dodson Magnet School to pick up Shalay (14) one of our tutoring students. I intended meeting with her Science Teacher, Mrs. Chaing, but did not have the time, since Shalay came out at 2:05.

2:30 PM Back to our Dominguez Hills location to begin preparation for the 16 students that will be arriving between 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM...and I am already exhausted! I send Jarrell to pick up Jasmine (14), from King Drew Magnet School.

4:30 PM  tutoring begins with an examination on the dry erase board. We have ventured back into circles, triangles, the Pythagorean Theorem, and basic trig functions: the exam is meant for Aaron, our future assistant tutor-in-training, but I require each and every one of the students to take it, since it contains High School Exit exam materials. They cry and moan, but to no avail.

5:15 Homework assistance begins. I move between each student who needs help and I make sure that students without homework are kept busy. I give Biology assignments to Omatseyin, Computer work to Daniel and camera work to Jordan. Daniel got busy with his science project, Sshalay with hers, Omatseyin with his. Chelsea and Loren arrived at 6:00 PM and were told we would be in attendance at the Carson City Hall for the monthly meeting. All of the others had been told to wear T-shirts with our logo, and they might be required to read e-mail from our Professionals.  A strict code of conduct was put into place.....at the Carson City Hall. Homework would be done in the Council Chambers...absolutely no talking would be allowed.

8:00 PM  I informed the parents of our upcoming visit to city hall on March 21. I told them they would come there to pick up their children.

8:30 PM Peggye Dunson and I lectured some students on discipline. I was glad to at last close my eyes for sleep at 10:30 PM
