Hear Ye! We will be having another "Educational Broadway Production in January of 2007 ( A Sunday afternoon at 3:00PM. ) These shows have been occurring since 1998 and are meant to reinforce what the students are learning in their respective schools. They will "show you what they've got" with regards to Mathematics and Science, going way ahead of their respective Middle and High School curriculums. For a glimpse at our show of March 2006, look at the Lesson Review of the Show....below!

Our Website...It's All There!
The Winner is.......The "Electronics and Electrical Station"....Station # 6.. our pick! This Station sends a powerful message to all. That message is this: If you would like to obtain a job making in excess of $85, 000 a year, please read and heed!" All you have to do is let "A Free Tutoring Service" tutor you for free and teach you something about Direct Current Electricity, Alternating Current Electricity, Electronics, Computers, Mathematics, Science and other related subjects. The students of ages 12 - 16 are already on their way!
Direct Current Electricity (click)...A beginning to our Complete Electrical and Electronics Course. Let us take you into a world of batteries, resistors, capacitors, inductors, and the inner workings of semi-conductors......to start. The Course is being taught by Mr. McAlpin, Supervising Senior Electrical Tester of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (Retired), and assisted by Student-Tutor, Jarrell Easley (19), on a continuous basis.
Jarrell (19) was supposed to "man" this Station # 6. Since he could not get off work from his Electronics job, the 13-year old Daniel filled in for him. Jarrell is "proof of the pudding" for us as he makes his way up the ladder of success!
A Review of the March 2006 Show
Station # 1: Shalay (14) and Vivian (15) did a wonderful job of letting everyone know that the Density of water was 1.0 gram/cm³ or 1.0 gram/milliliter. They weighed a tiny box of 27 cm³ (Volume=LWH, with measurements of 3 cm on each side) and subtracted that weight from a box filled with water. That weight was found to be 27 grams. Hence, the Density is 1 gram/cm³. Next, the "dynamic duo" added food coloring to water and proved that a liquid with a density less than water would float in water: Alcohol floats in oil and oil floats in water! It was a very graphic demonstration of scientific principle and knowledge. Thank you, Vivian and Shalay for a wonderful job! Vivian was too modest to let everyone know that she had moved her grade point average upwards of more than 2 points!
Station # 2: The Mathematics Station. The student- teams were very competitive! They graphed lines in less than 10 seconds (y =mx + b....variety); some took a few seconds longer and the audience cheered the students on! There was electricity and excitement in the air as the stop-watch operator shouted out "start ! " and the student-teams shouted out "finished ! " a few moments later! The straight line equations were given by Mr. McAlpin and the students had no prior knowledge of the complexity of their equation, or lack thereof. It will not be long before they are graphing Parabolic Equations, Exponential Functions and the Triple Integration Problems of Calculus! They did a terrific job, and I, as well of all of the guest, stood very proud of each and every one of them for a "job well done"! These occurrences are as exciting for me, as they are for the students! I can't hardly wait, to take them into "high level math and science"...The Differential Equations of Calculus...as our final quest!
Station # 3: The Biology Station. Steven had trouble with his Biology a few weeks ago. He corrected all that was wrong and perhaps will receive an "A" in Biology at Carson High School. He has already made a few "A" grades on examinations! His grade point average is now soaring! Steven discussed DNA like he was a Forensic Investigator attempting to solve a case: he discussed Evolution, a sensitive subject, and discussed it with class. Thank you, Steven. You have made all of us extremely proud of you. Keep up the good work at Carson High School! Of course, Vivian stood proud of him with her recent report card that showed "from a D to an A grade" over this past month. Vivian received and "A" in Biology, as well as 3 other "A" grades instead of the "D" grades she "dis-enjoyed" a month ago!
Station # 4: The Physics Station. Excuse me! "It ain't easy" to take such a complicated subject as sliding and rolling bodies down inclined planes of certain elevations....especially when one must first calculate the "G" (Universal Gravitational Constant of 32.2 ft/sec/sec or 9.8 m/sec/sec and calculate the acceleration of a toy car down that plane.
Shalay8.htm) A Repeat of History
Of course "G" must be verified by taking the swing of a pendulum and insert the time of one cycle, and the length of a piece of string into the formula ... T = 2∏ √ L/G; both calculations were done and "G" was inserted into the formula....A = GSIN39º ( 39º , the elevation of the inclined plane)...(and "G" further verified by dropping a body from the ceiling of 7 feet, and clocking the time of descent to put into the formula...S = ½ GT² ...to yield "G" as 32.2 ft/sec/sec or 9.8 m/sec/sec). This was a student-parent-guest exercise and it generated a tremendous amount of interest, cheering and clapping!
Not surprising to the students, "A", the acceleration of the car down the plane was found to be 20 ft/sec/sec !
I had to provide a bit of assistance to this most complicated of Physics problems for 13 and 14 year olds! Both Brianna and Omatseyin have moved their grade point averages upwards over this past month!
Station # 5: The Field Trip Station: All of the student took turns describing the Field Trips (as of late) to the LA Science Center and the Page Museum. Redondo Beach, too, was a lot of fun. The students look forward to Field Trips and we look forward to taking them to the far corners of the United States! I reviewed some of the Field Trips of the past, which included trips to New York, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam and Lake Meade, San Francisco, The California Coastline, Will Rodgers State Beach, South Orange County, The Griffith Observatory, Universal City Walk, IMax Theaters, Local Cities, and places near and few, educational as well as entertaining, for as long as the Free Tutoring Service is in existence. God orders each step of the Tutoring Service, and hence it will go on...and on....and on! Field Trips to occur no less than once each and every month! Our next trip will be to the LA Science Center; that is a student request!
Station # 7: The Educational Resources Station (Dedicated to Attorney Larry Easterwood of Carson, a wonderful and dedicated Professional Volunteer Tutor). Homework assistance comes in many forms in the Free Tutoring Service. It comes from dedicated Volunteer Tutors and dedicated parents. It comes from the Professional Community of Doctors and Dentist and Officers and CEOs and Educators and Attorneys and many others that have blessed this Dynamic and highly effective Nonprofit Corporation. It is so amazing that each and every one of the Volunteers works for free to make education a level playing field for all of our youth. Many, many thanks to all who have assisted in the elevation of grade point averages from all "F" to all "A" grades and who have instilled in all of the students a need to excel at all and any cost. Medical Doctor Cheryl Browne of Kaiser Hospital: many thanks for all of the teaching you have provided the students over these past years. Education can be fun.....and it truly is....in....A Free Tutoring Service: Preparing for the Future. God bless each and every Volunteer Tutor, Professional or otherwise, that has graced this Organization. Finally, this Website is an Educational Resource, with its many, many links to education....Click on the "Educational Icon Valuable Educational Links for you!" found on each page!
Many thanks to all who attended this Educational Broadway Production of "Show me what you've got". The food and fellowship was excellent. This was truly a work of God!
The Lessons learned on March 12th will be reinforced...and reinforced...you get the picture!
Jarrell Easley (19): Former failing student( at 13) that moved to a very high level G.P.A., to enjoy gainful employment as a Computer person at a Major Electronics Firm, to move on to LA Trade Technical College as a Computer Science major...to work with the students of A Free Tutoring Service as a Math and Science Instructor, and as a Teacher of Electronics and Math!
