November 23, 2005....Drew Magnet School in South Central Los Angeles.....receives yet another visit from me.

As usual, the hallways were extremely clean; the students neatly dressed; the teachers caring and dedicated; and the students ready and willing to learn. I visited the classroom of Ms. Woodlief, another caring mathematics teacher, and got more than I bargained for. I only came by to let her know that our Free Tutoring Service would be accepting more students, and I came armed with several flyers outlining our Program and how students might get in contact with us. I had made many, many trips to Drew Magnet School like so many other schools around the Los Angeles basin, and sat in classrooms with my students. Ms. Woodlief had one of her students make approximately 50 copies of my document and asked me to say a few words to her Senior class students.

After nearly 3-4 hours, and after lecturing 3 of her classes, I left Drew Magnet School with a great deal of satisfaction! I gave thanks to God for allowing me to get my messages about education to so many caring students. I told them of my struggles with education and my determination to improve myself; I told them of the Professionals (40) who came to my assistance when I started "A Free Tutoring Service" and focused on the education of all students; I told them of my determination to assist all and anyone who needed homework assistance in Algebra, Geometry, Biology, Physics, Calculus, or any subject, for free. The students asked many questions; some about career opportunities and about Professionals that I knew. I was grateful that I was able to stir a keen interest in just about all of them with regards to going to college and perhaps becoming independently wealthy. I told them about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, and how our own LA Police Department Officer, Abdullah Karriem, was on hand to tutor them about how to become an Officer; Doctor Cheryl Browne was on hand to lead them into the Medical Profession; Paula, Nurse Practitioner was on hand to lead them to a Nursing Career; and Doctor Beale D.D.S., a Dental career. There were questions about many careers, and I was happy so say that I could provide a Voluntary Professional Tutor to just about any career! That surprised me!

Ms. Pam Woodlief made me very happy when she told me that her son, and my former student Farrell (now 19), would be appearing on a television station in New York City to describe her book on tomorrow. Farrell is a brilliant student and designed the website that you see when you click on the link above. I am happy say that I taught Farrell a thing or two about website design!

It was a glorious Sunday, Pastor Gordon! I got to see first-hand... the Power of God!

A mother to one of my students (Ashley 15), seemed down in her spirit. Her name is Marilyn. After speaking with her via telephone for over one hour, and after reviewing the Sermon delivered by Reverend Doctor Sherman Gordon of New Philadelphia A.M.E. Church www.nuphilly.com , she found herself praising God and full of laughter, all at the same time. The Sermon was on "Prayer" and how it elevates you above your problems. Prayer allows you to "move on", realizing that God does answer prayers: Prayer allows you to shout out praises to God, because you can realize that your Prayers are already answered. Marilyn told me she would be joining the New Philadelphia Church Family, and so she did, along with her daughter Ashley......right along with my grand daughter, Shalay (13). My Prayer was that these events would come to pass, and I began shouting shortly after I offered up my Prayer. I give thanks to God for answering Prayers and for Pastor Gordon, who reminds us of this! Cleophas Mike McAlpin

Note! We are now accepting a limited number of students who really need assistance in Math and Science. It has been a glorious 7 years of Free Tutoring, and our Prayer is that we are able to continue our work in elevating grade point averages, continue to counsel and mentor our students of all Races and backgrounds, continue to take them on Field Trips, continue to teach them vocational skills and continue to put them before the Professional community. Follow our progress on this website as we move forward with our Lesson Reviews, field trips and our Praises of God...because It is Already done!
