What has caused Vivian to go from failing to excellence? See Below! Also, Patricia Kirk McAlpine tutors....below

April 1, 2006:    For the second time, I have received a U.S. Presidential Invitation: The first was from the Secretary of the United States Air Force, to come to the Pentagon to watch my brother, Colonel Aubry McAlpine, A Volunteer Tutor to "A Free Tutoring Service", retire from the United States Air Force. I was elated to take my 80- year old mother to the Pentagon to watch Aubry's retirement! Secretary Alridge was a wonderful person, as he congratulated me on having such a fine brother! "Mike, you're not allowed to take photos in this room" ,he smiled and told me, and I put my video camera away! He smiled at my mother, Lillie Mae, and congratulated her too; To which she replied from her wheelchair, "Thank you, sir." A mother of all mothers!   The McAlpins

Another invitation came today, March 31, 2006  from the Secretary of the Air Force:  The Honorable Michael W. Wynn invited me to come to Arlington National Cemetery  (click) to watch Patricia Kirk-McAlpine, Western Regional Director of the Defense Contract Management Agency: my sister-in-law... and Volunteer Tutor to this Organization,  receive a "Presidential Meritorious Rank Award". She is one of the 12 recipient- winners of the "2005 Air Force Rank Awards". She is a winner when it comes to the United States Air Force...and a winner when it comes to teaching the underprivileged students of......"A Free Tutoring Service: Preparing for the Future". Of course, I would love to attend the affair this April, but I won't be able to: I have to make sure that all  ten of the students (click) that I have singled out, all 10, ....are moved to 3.5-4.0 Grade Point Averages" and the rest......moved to GPA's above a 3.0! That would give all 20 of them  a clear path towards success! I will make sure of that with my  Electronics and Electrical Theory (click) classes! They are in their future!  More Presidential Award Invitations are in store for me! See:  Our Intensity Level Increases  (click)  and  Our Rules of Engagement (click) One of Patricia's many lesson reviews is shown below! She is still teaching and interacting and teaching....etc!

Patricia Kirk-McAlpine.............Tutor:  Western Regional Director, Department of Defense Contracts Management  (City of Carson Office)

U.S.A.F. Colonel/CEO Logicon......... Aubry McAlpine....Tutor    Mrs. McAlpine is equivalent to a 2- Star General!

Mrs. McAlpine gives motivational lecture to students on this Sunday afternoon after church.

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8: 38, 39.

Our Sunday started with a motivational sermon by Pastor Sherman Gordon of the New Philadelphia A.M.E. Church in Carson. The topic of the message was..."Keep on Moving". Do not let anything stand in the way of you reaching your goals in life. He said to: 1. have a strong determination and stay focused 2. surround yourself with positive people 3. Keep on moving 4. know that if God is for you, no weapon shall prosper against you. The students listened intently to the message from God.

Patricia Ann Kirk-McAlpine is definitely a very positive person. She gave the students a motivational lecture as to why they should do their very best in school. Mrs. McAlpine outlined her educational background and said that it took a lot of hard work to reach her position as a top executive in a leading Aerospace Company. Mrs. McAlpine oversees Global Positioning Satellites (G.P.S.). She has a staff of over 300. She says that she is also "very highly paid", being the top salaried female in her field in the United States.  (Want to know about communication satellites? Visit the hyperlink    www.satcodx.com )  Want a satellite view of your home or any spot in the world? Visit the hyperlink  www.globexplorer.com

U.S.A.F. Colonel (Retired) Aubry and Mrs. McAlpine are, of course, very well off. Colonel McAlpine is an investment counselor and also one of our Volunteer Tutors. Colonel McAlpine has just retired as Vice President of another leading Aerospace Company and spends a lot of time vacationing and taking care of investments.

The students reviewed the lesson for the day with the McAlpines. They told of the field trip of the day before to Griffith Park, where they were served a lunch of barbecue chicken, corn-on-the-cob, baked beans, chips, soda and cookies. (The food was donated by Cleophas as a thank you for improving grade point averages or making an attempt to do so). They told of the hungry bees in the park that drove them to have their lunch in the van. They said that it was a lot of fun, nevertheless.

The students told of the visit to Universal City Walk after the "Free Tutoring Service" lessons at the Observatory and the great time they had at the movies and at sightseeing.

The students demonstrated what they had learned about the Foucault pendulum while in the Observatory. They told of the Tesla Coil and the Periodic Table of the Elements. They told of the Sun Dial and the magnificent view from the roof of the Observatory. They told of the lessons they received on calculating "G". (They had been taken into a lesson on exponents and the solving of equations for approximately one hour. They had solved the "Gravity Problem" without the use of a Scientific Calculator. They had also reviewed a math examination because November is the "month of exams")

Colonel McAlpine pointed out that the length of the 40-foot steel wire was set at that length to ensure that the angle of oscillation was a minimum (less than 30 degrees) to allow a correct calculation of the acceleration due to gravity (G). It was also set so that 7 seconds would be the period (T) of one oscillation.

Colonel and Mrs. McAlpine held one-on-one conversations with the students and heard about their school activities, and tutoring activities, They heard all about the field trips to Washington D.C., New York, Hoover Dam, San Francisco and Lake Meade (The McAlpines provided financial assistance for some of the trips.) They encouraged the students to do their very best in school. They also let the students know that the community is behind them as they make their way to the top. There are "positive people" standing by to assist them, and they should surround themselves with those positive people.

It is really very easy to stay focused on what we must do to improve the educational lot of our children. It is very easy because we have indeed surrounded ourselves with "positive people" (please click, and tell Oprah all about us!). It has been easy to put aside the negative comments and stay focused. It has been easy to assist these students of mostly single-mother households because they  need our help and are very appreciative of it. Finally, it is very easy because of our very strong belief in God.

The White House awaits the future Presidents, Senators, and the like!

We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us!

Below: What will happen when a high level Executive of the United States Air Force meets a failing student in Carson, California. They have never met, though Tyneesha attends Curtiss Middle School in Carson, and Patricia Kirk-McAlpine's office is less than a mile away in the City of Carson. What happens when Patricia, a Professional Volunteer to A Free Tutoring Service, meets a failing student. Let me tell you.....Tyneesha will move to an all "A" student. Vivian's report card has made her mother extremely proud of her on this day, April 8, 2006. It contained 4 "A" grades, 1 "C" grade and a bad grade in a subject that in my opinion should not even be taught! All of her academic subjects are laced with "A" grades! From D and F she came! Her teacher called in her mother to ask, "What happened to Vivian (15)? Why has she turned into a wonderful girl with a wonderful personality? What has caused Vivian to go from failing to excellence? What is going on? What? What?"

All I can say is that we do take the failing students and turn them into "A" students. Those who fail in our midst are only failing temporarily, for the reasons for failure might have roots in other than their ability to comprehend! We are on the lookout for those reasons....and teachers....beware....you might be one of the reasons!

Below: My Invitation to attend my Professional Tutor's Award Ceremony....to which I cannot attend. Tyneesha needs my most immediate attention!

We will focus on the 12-year old Tyneesha!
