                                                         No Rest for the Weary

There is no such thing as a Christmas vacation for this Tutoring Service! The students called and asked to be taken somewhere, anywhere on this the 20th day of December. I could not say no. And so, it was off to the California coast from Santa Monica to Oxnard for a tour.

Keyotta, Sheena, Cleasena, Jeremiah and James relaxed in our "super van" and marveled at the beauty of the Pacific Ocean and the luxury of the hills of Malibu. They listened to music and played video games as they rode the 40 or so miles along the Ocean.

We stopped at Leo Carrillo State Campground on took pictures. The campground lies adjacent to Highway One and the Pacific Ocean. None of the students had ever gone camping and this trip gave them an idea of what it is like. A path out of the campground leads underneath the Highway where the Ocean awaits. The students played in the tide pools found there and took more pictures.

We ended up at a Theater in Oxnard, but could not see a movie due to a lack of funds. We contented ourselves to drive back into the Los Angeles basin along the Highway 101, Highway 405, Highway 10, Highway 110 and finally Highway 91. All of the frustrating highway travel took 2 hours. At least, the students got a taste of what it is like to be stuck in "rush hour" traffic that moves at 2 miles an hour!

I gave a lecture on the California coastline and discussed the Channel Islands off the coast. I tried to give information and inspire interest in Oxnard but I do not think any of the students will ever move there. It seems too much of an agricultural area for the likes of South Central dwellers such as myself.
