Date: April 4, 2006 (click!) Student Tutors...Omatseyin (13), Daniel (12) They worked problems 1-6 on fractions! Are they correct? Multiplication Table is shown below:
1. 6.22 x 0.133 = Multiply long-handed, no calculators! Answer = 0.827
2. 75% of 300 = Drop percentage sign and move decimal two places to the left (0.75), then drop the "of" and change it to a "times" and multiply 0.75 x 300; Place the 0.75 on paper first, then place the 300 below it, with the "3" under the "5"; this way, simply bring down the two zeroes and multiply the "3" times the 0.75. This will lead to 225 as the answer! Simple, huh! Summing up the rules for percentages: drop the percent sign: move the decimal point two places to the left; change the "of" to a "X" and multiply the two numbers: don't forget to count the decimal points and move the decimal point in the answer to the correct place.
3. 3 1/2 + 6 7/9 = Hint! the whole numbers are a "3" and a "6", so the answer is near to a "9"! The answer is 10 5/18
4. 4 2/7 x 3 2/5 = Hint! multiply the "4" by the "3" to get an idea of the answer! It must be near to 3x4! Answer is 14.57... Daniel will change the 0.57 to a fraction at our next session!
5. 598 1/9 – 253 4/9 = 344 5/9 I must check this answer from Omatseyin for correctness!
6. 2 2/5 ¸ 1 1/3 = 1 4/5
